Review Of 2014

Wow, I can’t believe we are already in 2015! 2014 went super quick and soo much happened. I went a week without technology, had & threw up afternoon tea at The Ritz, saw a fashion show at London Fashion Week, Milked A Cow, went on a road trip to Ohio, went to a Rodeo in Ohio (in a maxi dress!), had a photo shoot with my mum, went on a spa weekend with Hayley and finally made my own Christmas cards!

As well as all of that I had 2 holidays, brought a new car, broke my foot, went to the grand national, reunited with old friends, lost new friends and caught lightening bugs in America. To say it has been a quiet year would be a bit of an understatement. However, for some reason whenever anyone says to me “oh what have you been up to?” I never seem have much to report back, which in actual fact is a LIE!

I cant really say what my favourite thing of 2014 was as I have a lot of happy memories and ones that I will treasure forever. There have been some sad times as well, Matt & I know people that have ended relationships, lost family members and experienced a lot of sadness this year.

I am really excited to see what 2015 has in store for me, I know that one thing is for sure I am fly to VEGAS in April! I cannot wait, I am sooo excited! I have also started number 24 – its a bit hard to find something to take a picture of everyday, but I am excited to look back on them in a years time! There are 2 more things that I would like to cross of this year, but I am going to keep them for myself and surprise you all when I announce them! People often ask each other, what New Year’s resolutions they are making; I cant help but feel that you are setting yourself up for failure, especially if they are diet or fitness related. I have made 3 resolutions for this year, but these are things I started doing at the beginning of December:

Be Kinder To Myself – dont put too much pressure on myself to hit certain goals, just enjoy life

Make More Effort With Those That Make The Effort With Me – I am not great at texting people back or calling people, but I am concious that I dont want to lose friendships that I have, so I am going to make the effort more, especially with those that always make an effort to reach out to me.

Save At Least 12k By The End Of The Year – I already have about a 3rd of this saved, so its a reasonable goal, but one that I want to achieve to get my own home!

Have you made any resolutions for the new year? what were your favourite things of 2014?

Blogging To Christmas Part II

Part 2…….Christmas Movies

Who doesn’t love a good Christmas movie? Sitting by the tree and watching a classic on the TV! I was at the Christmas Ideal Home Show the other week and as we were walking round there was a group of people gathered on some sofa’a and bean bags, I wasn’t sure why at first, but as we walked past they were all sat watching Miracle On 34th Street! All of them, from young kids to grown men were completely engrossed in the movie & as we walked past, I felt comforted by the music and the section of the film as it’s one that I have watched as a young girl. That’s the thing with Christmas movies, they all start to eventually have a memory to them! Now trying to work out what are my favourites is a bit difficult, but I have listed a few that I would defiantly recommend watching with a hot chocolate!

Elf

Well why not! It’s one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, always puts a smile on my face. This has to be one of my favorite parts

The Santa Clause (and you have to watch ALL 3)

For me Tim Allen IS Father Christmas, I love all 3 films and I have to watch all 3 before Christmas as well.

The Polar Express

I have asked a few people about this movie and always get mixed reviews! I love the believing aspect behind this film, it is always something that my dad has drummed into myself and my brother, especially as there is 9 years between us, I had to keep believing because of my little brother when I stopped believing. So if your little ones are at the age where they are questioning is “he” real? Sit them down in front of this and I think it will help install 1 more year of magic!

Love Actually

Because LOVE is important at this time of year and everyone loves a rom-com that’s based around Christmas!

It’s A Wonderful Life

For as long as I can remember my dad has watched this every year when he is writing his Christmas cards. Mum & I always tease him because its an old black and white film, but without walking in the house and hearing this film on it wouldn’t be Christmas!

White Christmas

I only watched this film for the first time about 4 years ago, on Christmas Eve before going to church (more on that in another post!)So now I have to watch it every Christmas Eve before going to Church!

I hope this has given you some idea’s on movies to watch, perhaps there might even be some that you haven’t seen and are thinking you might give them a watch! I promise, you wont be disappointed!

Revisiting Number 5!

5. Go On A Safari

safari_kenya

There is nothing that I would love more than to see Elephants, Lions, Tigers & Giraffes roaming the African plains, free and without a care in the world! However, realistically a safari can cost anything upto £5k and that is a lot of money when you are trying to save up a deposit for a mortgage! So I tried to be a bit more inventive and started looking at VIP safari packages at local Zoo’s and Safari parks. There are some fantastic offers available, but the best ones, you are looking at spending £500 per person and that £1k would pay for one of us to go to Cuba for 2 weeks! So I looked at another alternative, I found a lovely Safari park in Kent where you can have personal safari & stay in the grounds, but again it wasn’t cheap. Now I know the idea of a bucket list is to do things you would never do normally, but I just really don’t think this is possible for me to do before I am 30! Soooo its being replaced….

5. Visit A Fortune Teller
Yes, you are probably are all thinking this is really random and completely unsual – but isn’t that the idea? I can remember being on holiday in Devon one year when I was about 14/15 and walking down the pier to go and play in the arcades and we walked passed a little, I suppose, shed. It was a fortune teller, I remember saying to my mum and dad I wanted to do it, but they said I was too young. Then a few years later when I went to Brighton for the first time, I walked past a Native Indian Shop and it had a note in the window stating “Tarot readings available today”. Everytime I have been down there something has made me look and think “ooo do I do it”…..So this isn’t just a one off random idea, I have wanted to do this for quite some time now….I just need to put it into action!

Revisiting Number 20

20. Experience Christmas In New York

As you know when I came back from New York this year, I was in 2 minds as to whether I wanted to go back again, I felt that I had done everything I wanted to do in new York and that the only reason I wanted to go back is to see the Rockefeller Tree at Christmas. Now it got me thinking, is that a good enough reason to spend potentially £800+ for a long weekend in New York?? Each time I ask that question, I have 2 little people on each shoulder, 1 saying “yeah go for it, you only live once” and the other says “ you have been to New York 4 times now, do you really need to go again?!” Even now as I am writing this I am thinking I am going to keep it in the list! But it’s a no from me, yes I want to travel, but I don’t want to keep going back to the same place all the time.

20. Have A Make Over At A Makeup Counter & Buy The Right Make Up For Me.

So this is a bit of an unusual one, I am not a big make up wearer and the make-up I do have has been recommended to me by Steph (My Bestie). So I know I wear good products and I pretty much can make a bottle of foundation last a year. But I have no clue what I am doing, I don’t know how to work out what the right colour is for me, I don’t know what brushes to buy, what eye shadow will compliment my eyes and my skin tone. Don’t even get me started on what Primer is and when is the best time to apply it. When I put make up, it’s literally foundation bit of powder, bronzer or blush, eye liner, maybe some eye shadow and then mascara – and that’s if I am going out! If it’s just a normal day, I chuck on some mascara and that’s me done! But I would really like to have a box full of make-up that I know A) how to apply & B) suits me! So I am going to do some research on quality make up brands that you can find in department stores or Boots that offer make up sessions etc. There are 2 that have caught my eye so far, MAC and Benefit, I don’t know too much about them so I am going to do a bit of research and see what I can find out.

Revisiting the list……..

I have been mulling this over now for a while, checking my list an trying to work out what can replace Number 20 & 21 and maybe changing some other that realistically are either too expensive or just not doable!

Here are a few idea’s:

Travel Somewhere by myself
Visit a fortune teller
Celebrate my birthday in a foreign country
Feed An Animal At The Zoo
Volunteer
Throw a massive 30th birthday party
Go to the Mall of America
Go to a make up counter and buy the right make up for me
Go on holiday with no plans – just go with the flow
Eat no meat for 1 month
Visit a castle & learn its history
Go To Disneyland, wear mouse ears and act like a big kid

There a few in that list that I could 100% do and achieve before I am 30, but actually only 5 that I probably really want to do, but there are a few things in there that would probably be an experience I would never have before!

I am going to think this over for a while and see where my decision takes me!

Brightly Does It

Its not very often that I feel compelled to write a blog immediately after something has happened, but I needed to share!

It was my birthday a few days ago and my bestie http://youtu.be/q2czqfQAs5c asked me what she can get me, I straight away said Frozen or if she didn’t want to get me that then to surprise me! I was really excited to open my gift and I got Frozen (its on in the background as I type this!), a yankee candle wax tart (because she knows I love my candles) and a gorgeous China Glaze nail polish.

Steph told me that she wanted to keep the nail polish for herself as she loved the colour, so I joked and said that I would send her a picture to make her jealous once I used it! Tonight, after a stressful few days, I decided to have a bath, watch Frozen and try out my new nail polish. Now because of the colour I did a white base first to make the colour really pop, I used Barry M Matt White. Once dried, I did 1 coat of the gorgeous purple, it layered really nice and dried very quickly, but because my hands aren’t always steady and the coat wasn’t evenly applied, I did a 2nd coat and it just gave the colour so much more depth. Again it dried really quick and I applied my top coat to seal it all together and ensure I don’t need to re-do my nails before a wedding I am attending on Saturday.

I straight away sent a text to Steph and I think its save to say she loves the colour as much as I do! This is the first China Glaze polish I have used & if they are all as good as this I will definitely be buying more (I hope my boyfriend isn’t reading that!)

Thank You Steph!!!

Mother & Daughter Time

When I came back from the states One of my friends Hayley asked me what I would like for my birthday, to which I replied I had no idea at all. She asked me if as a budding photographer she could help me with my bucket list and take me and my mum to a local garden and do a photo shoot? I jumped at the chance as she is a great photographer and I knew me and mum would be relaxed and have a giggle!

We headed down to some lovely gardens in West Sussex and just went with the flow, we had lots of giggles and it was a lovely day to spend with Hayley and Mum, the fact we were there to take photos was just a bonus!

At work Hayley asked if I would like my birthday gift before my birthday? Of course I said no! So when I opened up my gift on my birthday I was just simply blown away. Hayley had put together a lovely photobook with gorgeous phrases and brilliant pictures of me and mum and also a lovely photo board. I simply couldnt believe how lovely the photos were and what made it even better was that I could remember what we were laughing at etc at each photo. Hayley also gave me a USB with all the photos on too & I just had to share some with you!
